Relaxation Technique I Don't Teach

I suffered with anxiety all of my life.  From a very young age I began researching and trying different relaxation techniques to try and reduce stress.  This search is probably what led me to study Social Work and want to share what I had learned with others.

I have tried many techniques and have always been very optimistic about their benefits.  Unfortunately for most of these tools, once the placebo effect wore off, the actual changes were not enough for me to maintain the practice.

Only a few have passed the test of making a significant change and being easy enough for me to maintain them for more than a year.

If you read my blog or watch my YouTube channel you know the two techniques that have changed my life and that I teach: ASMR and Guided Meditation.

There are a few others though that I do not teach.  One is yoga.  I have done yoga periodically throughout my life but it has only become a regular practice for me in the past several years.

One reason this finally stuck is that I created an easy 10 minute routine that I do the first thing in the morning, often before I even get out of bed.  This is a Kundalini yoga routine that keeps my back flexible and allows me to start the day off relaxed.

I do not teach this routine because I am not a yoga instructor.  I do show a little example of it in this silly video.

The book I used to create this routine is Kundalini Yoga by Shakta Kaur Khalsa.  If you want to create your own routine, this is a good book to check out.

I often suffer with low back problems and I highly recommend trying this active type of yoga.  Again, I am not a yoga instructor so definitely seek some expert advice to help you create your own routine.  If you want information from someone who does teach Kundalini Yoga check out Kundalini Yoga School: http://kundaliniyogaschool.org/2016/07/18/how-can-kundalini-yoga-totally-de-stress-you-in-only-33-minutes/

This is one of the relaxation tools I use daily, and in combination with ASMR, Guided Meditation and probiotics (which I will discuss in a later blog), I have reduced my anxiety to nearly non-existent.

If you want to delve deeper into the techniques I teach, I hope you will join me for "Zenvigorate - a Relaxation Workshop" starting on September 17, 2016.  This is a seven week online workshop with relaxation tools you will be able to use at any time and live support and videos.

I hope to take this journey with you,

How to Relax Workshop - Zenvigorate

Relaxation Workshop for Motivation

Learn to Relaxation techniques to Reduce your Stress and get the energy to stick with your goals.

I reduced my own stress to be able to focus on my family while pursuing multiple careers and hobbies without feeling depleted and I will show you exactly the method I used.

I have 20 years experience teaching stress reduction with individuals, groups, and businesses.

What is Zenvigorate?  Zenvigorate is a system to reduce stress and then use that relaxed state for motivation.

One definition of Zen is "a Japanese school of Mahayana Buddhism emphasizing the value of meditation and intuition." While this workshop is not Buddhist, it will focus on meditation and intuition for relaxation.

In this workshop you will:
  • Learn how to control your stress with relaxation techniques.
  • Explore something you have been wanting to start but have felt too overwhelmed to begin.
  • Maintain motivation to keep working during and past the seven week workshop.

You may want to start a new job, hobby, or spiritual or health pursuit.

Is there something you have always wanted to learn but just haven’t had the energy to start?

Are there projects you have started but have not continued because it was too difficult?

In this workshop we will explore the tools that will help you relax and regain energy.

We will learn about stress and how it affects your brain and body.

I will show you the two relaxation exercises that I learned as a child and have never forgotten.  I have studies relaxation tools since then and will provide recordings of all the techniques I have found that work long term.

Once we have found a relaxed place, we will use guided meditation to discover and start a new goal.  Don’t worry if you do not begin this workshop with a specific goal in mind.  Once you release your stress the goal should become apparent in meditation.

If you struggle with maintaining momentum once you start something new, you will have the support of the group during the workshop to keep you going.  Meditation recordings/videos will be provided to maintain your motivation long after the workshop is over.

  • Over seven weeks you will receive weekly relaxation recording/videos and guided meditations.

  • Once a week (usually on Friday evenings at 8:00 PM EST) there will be a live Google Hangout with the workshop members to meditate together and discuss progress.  These will be recorded if you can’t make them live.

  • Written material and activities will be sent weekly and we will check in regularly through a private Facebook group and emails.

  • Take this seven weeks to make a habit out of relaxation and find the motivation to move towards your goals.
